One Click: Socioeconomic Reports for Every County

Authored by Chris Mehl on November 19, 2015

As part of our free Economic Profile System, Headwaters Economics created the map below to provide quick socioeconomic reports for every county in the nation.

The profiles (PDF) show trends for population, employment, personal income, earnings and jobs by industry, non-labor income, and more—along with helpful explanatory text, citations, and additional resources.

In addition to the above “one click” profiles, read more below about a number of free data tools to help users better understand local economies.

The Economic Profile System (EPS)

Free and easy-to-use, EPS provides 14 different reports so users quickly can create custom profiles for communities, counties, and states (including aggregations and comparisons) across the country in Excel, PDF, or Word.

The reports cover a wide variety of topics such as local economics, demographics, and land use while providing historic context and trends for the last forty years.

EPS synthesizes data from a wide variety of federal sources, is updated continuously, and is used by researchers, university instructors, economic developers, grant writers, elected officials, cities, planners, federal agencies, reporters, and others.

Additional Data and Tools

  • West-Wide Economic Atlas: Interactive map to quickly explore socioeconomic and land use trends in the West at the county or state level.
  • Non-Labor Income: Representing 60 percent of net personal income growth in the last decade, non-labor income makes up 41 percent of total personal income in the West.
  • Migration & Population Trends: Explore the four county types and their migration and natural population change (births and deaths).
  • Three Wests: Research shows there are three distinctly different types of counties in the West, defined by their access to major markets and population centers.
