DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY: 
The CAD analysis was conducted by the BC Coast Information Team (CIT), an independent, multidisciplinary group established and supported by the Provincial Government of British Columbia, First Nations governments, the forest industry, environmental groups, communities and later the federal government, as part of the implementation of the 2001 CCLCRMP (Central Coast Land and Coastal Resource Management Planning) Phase I Framework Agreement ( 130 Kb).  

The purpose of the analysis was to identify priority areas for biodiversity conservation by integrated three basic approaches to conservation planning: (1) Representation of a broad spectrum of environmental variation, (2) Protection of special elements, and (3) Conservation of critical habitats of focal species. Since the time of the coastal study, newly negotiated protected areas for the Great Bear Rainforest have been designated.  Round River is currently working on a new conservation area design for the coastal area.
